Mexican economy will benefit from the earthquake according to Carlos Slim


Mexican economy Carlos SlimSeveral earthquakes rocked Mexico several days ago, resulting in almost 470 victims and about 150,000 destroyed houses. However, despite of this fact one of the richest men in the country, Carlos Slim, is certain that the Mexican economy will ultimately benefit from the natural disasters.

“It will undoubtedly create hundreds of jobs and generate strong Mexican economy activity”, said Carlos Slim. In his words, the earthquakes of September 7 and 19 are really a tragedy but will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the economy.

Above all, in the poor Oaxaca and Chiapas in the southern part of the country, misfortune can cause a boom.

“The local economy in these regions will develop in a new way, as there will be strong demand and more work. People still have to eat, live, build”, said Carlos Slim.

Through its foundation, he will donate more than 2.3 billion pesos (105 million EUR) to humanitarian aid and reconstruction.

With an estimated 66 billion USD wealth, according to Forbes, Carlos Slim is the sixth most wealthy person in the world. He has accumulated his money primarily with investments in the construction and telecoms sector. Today he runs a conglomerate with many participations in various industries.
