The countries in the group of the seven most advanced industrial countries (G7) may introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation related to the situation in the Donbass. The decision was announced at joint statement by the G7 foreign ministers and the EU’s foreign policy chief and security Federica Mogherini.
“We are ready to take additional restrictive measures if Russia’s actions require it”, says the statement after the meeting of G-7 Foreign Ministers in Toronto.
At the same time, the ministers condemned Russia’s “irresponsible and destabilizing behavior” and urged Moscow to help resolve the conflict in Syria.
The US intelligence services say Russia has intervened in the US presidential election campaign in 2016, and Moscow is also accused of attacking a strange substance against former Russian spies in the UK, which the G-7 strongly condemned.
“We call on Russia to end this behavior, which is very damaging to the prospects for constructive cooperation”, says the join statement of the G7 foreign ministers.
